Some of you may have seen Jonathan and Lynn at the festival last year
as they were dressed in traditional Native American clothing.
Jonathan and Lynn have been working on plans for establishing a living history museum on the shores of Cobbosseecontee Stream in the Gardiner/Litchfield area as part of an overall plan to comply with Maine Law LD 291, which involves the teaching of Maine' Native American history and culture in Maine schools. The museum will be similar in approach to what they have done at Plymouth Plantation in Massachusetts in that people that are employed there will be dressing and speaking the language of the period, however, the history will be presented from the Abenaki perspective. Jonathan is of Abenaki heritage and is a historian and has done extensive research in reference to the Abenaki Tribe and brings with him a wealth of knowledge about the Abenakis, and Lynn is of Passamaquoddy and Mic Mac heritage and has worked with tribal members throughout Maine. They will be setting up a display to help with their efforts of generating financial support and enthusiasm for the museum and will be on hand to answer questions about Native American culture and history as well.
